Suddenly It's Christmas!

Whether it's approaching your partner for intamcy, or  being sold an automobile, or attending a family celebration...anticipation is the fuel that jump starts the engine of the heart.
Anticipation is a wonderful energy, but if that event gets over anticipated, the event itself will be anti-climatic.
I have just returned from the Mall. The stores have already begun decorating and setting up  Christmas displays that reach the  ceiling. One store was playing "Jingle Bells" over the sound system....pardon me, but last time I looked, it was the 11th of November! The Thanksgiving decorations were already moved to the clearence tables...I guessI was supposed to have purchased those items on Labor day!
Retailers are afraid about this Christmas season, between significantly higher gas prices, higher prices for merchandise, and the elevated interest rates , there won't be much in the pockets of consumers.
With all this Christmas "foreplay" they will certainly kill consumer spontanaity, which will leaving the store shelves with the unecessary merchandise that will need huge discounting to move. Well, you will be ale to find those bargains in the "day after Christmas sales" which will begin on Dec. 22 this year!
  Peace & Joy....Marc :)

I was hearing Christmas songs on the radio yesterday, I just changed the station.
I used to love the holidays, but divorce takes the fun out of everything.  So it's bad enough I have to deal with xmas but to bring it on early....Bah! Humbug!

Same here as well; my approach to this is simple.  While my eyes may be taking in the early displays designed to fire up consumer shopping, I am guided by my heart as I walk through the stores.  In my heart I know many things will stay the same this year, but most of all, Christmas day will occur on December 25.  Retailers can't change that.

Marc, I know exactly what you mean. I heard the first Christmas song on the radio the day after Halloween. It made me sad. I'm not ready to think Christmas yet. There must be something to their madness though, because yesterday I bought some Christmas gifts. I have NEVER been an early shopper, although I promise myself every year that I will do it early NEXT year. There is something exciting about being the last minute shopper, it's heady stuff. I hope you're right and they do start those sales early this year!

I read in The New York Times last weekend that all the stores thought they might do better if they started the holiday season the first of November, hoping they'd lure the dumb people in before the average consumer goes broke just staying warm. Hmmmm... maybe not so bad living in Florida, where we don't have to worry about staying warm, especially when we live in a country where you get rewarded a $2.3 million dollar jet just for being one of the country's worst governors. Looks like he'll also get to keep his trillion dollar bridge to nowhere that only 20 people use, even though the country is facing huge deficits as a result of Katrina. Would the greedy jerk give it up to help the needy? Yeah... right.
Well, ya get what ya voted for, eh?

I must be odd, because I love when the stores bring out the Christmas displays early on. Maybe it is due to the fact Christmas is my absolute most favorite holiday. One year I had ALL of my shopping done and wrapped by August (and that was for well over 50 people). Sometimes I am slow making all my purchases, but it still does not take away from the thrill I get when I enter a store in late October or early November and see the sparkling Christmas trees and decorations. And no matter what, there will always be tons and tons of gifts for me to give others. It is one time of the year when I splurge like crazy and spend whatever I want. After all, weren't WE all given one heckuva supreme gift some 2,000 years ago?

LOL! I'm working in a jewelry dept. and have been laying away gifts and hearing Christmas carols (the same ones) over and over and over again all day long. I hear them in my sleep. ;) HappyThanksgivingMerryChristmas...I think.

KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!!  DECORATIONS HAVE BEEN IN OUR STORES SINCE THE MIDDLE OF SEPT. IN OHIO....WHY DON'T THEY JUST LEAVE THEM UP ALL YEAR?  THANKSGIVING SHOULD BE THE BIG HOLIDAY AND YET IT IS HARDLY MENTIONED...MAYBE IF WE WERE MORE THANKFUL, OUR COUNTRY AND THIS WORLD WOULD HAVE MORE BLESSINGS INSTEAD OF THE ROAD WE SEEM TO BE ON!!

It would annoy me to see and hear stuff about Christmas this early, but I very rarely go to the mall, so don't see the decorations early..I am pretty isolated from a lot of it since I work soo much, and don't really go out a lot. I am always listening to CD's and not the radio, so I don't get overdosed on Christmas music.   I have been doing my shopping online, to get it done early and be less stressed about shopping, but I will still go out the last week before christmas and mingle with the crowd at the mall and take in all the christmas lights and decorations.

Crazy isn't it? I just saw someone's house lit up with Christmas lights last night. As much as I love Christmas decorations, it's still a bit too early for them. We haven't even had our turkey & thanks yet! :)  ~ Lori

Ahhh Marc... when the heck are you coming back to us?

Your adoring fans miss  you so much! Last Sunday... what happened to last Sunday? wasn't that the magic hook-up date? How much longer must we wait for your grains of precious sand to reappear?
