Grains Of Sand

Today as I was provoked by a journal which had raised a question about our existance, I was brought back in time to when I once asked that same series of questions. "Why are here?"  "What is our purpose?"  "Is life a series of events, or is there a destiny for each of us?"  Those questions (and many similar ones) have always haunted my realm......and I have always tested various waters of thought for guidance and answers.....inbetween their lines, they were all saying the same thing....

discovering....uncovering.....awakening....opening.....all need to be present before any amount of enlightenment can occur........ Then, in one written line, the doors opened for  my mind to cross into......the line was.....in this galaxy, there are billions of stars....imagine billions! Our huge glorious sun, is but one tiny spec in the galaxy! Earth, is less than a spec.....and we, the people on it are nothing more than a spec of spec!  "How can we be so small?" ....... "Its impossible!" I gasped.  You and I know...our lives are a BIG DEAL....many count on us, look to us for love and support. We have hearts that live, love and laugh. But,,,sadly, from way up there...we are just a small part of a very small insignificant spec! Can such a small spec have something so grand as a destiny assigned to it?

I turned to the sand....tiny specs, from 5 feet up, you can't tell one from another. Like souls that have lived, they stretch out as far as the eye can see..and yet we cannot see one individually!...."So, is that what we are? Are we nothing more than specs that stretch out across time like the  sand that stretches out across the beach?"

Don't rely on sight!          Step upon the sand.........if one walks on the sand with their heels, they will feel very little. The heels are calloused and lack nerve endings..the sand cannot be sensed.....but walk on your soles, which are thin skinned and full of nerve endings...and suddenly....you will feel each and every grain of sand that is there....as a matter of fact, a tiny one might feel as large as a stone! Once you can feel something, you can begin the process of defining it, understanding its origin and purpose.

That is how I walk through life...on my soles, sensitive to each chirp of a bird, respectful of the wisdom that lies in each blade of grass, and give thanks with each breath I take.

Its the small  things that count.....but first you must know they are there!

Staring out at that starlight sky (noticing the billions)...I bid each of you a night of Peace!   Marc :)

It's morning now, and I hope your day is peaceful as well.  I'm just trying not to go into sensory overload as I go through this life.  We are just tiny, things, insignificant in the truly big picture, yet, each of us is vital somehow.  How we're vital is what I think we have to find out.

Very beautiful.  Of course, I enjoyed it when we 'talked' of this the other night.  Your perspective is a good thing, Marc!  ~Dona

Hello Marc: Though we are new to one another and have a lot to learn yet about the other, I am so deeply impressed and magically moved with your words.  You leave me with a gaping mouth, a starstruck stare, an in total awe of the magic you create with your words.  I feel honored and certainly blessed to have you as an addition to my friends and buddy list.  Here's to getting to know one another, Lorie

And what a lovely spec, you are.  Your optimism almost makes me want to puke, but I will hold it in, as not to offend anyone ;)~  If only I could live with such an open mind and open heart.  Just beautiful Marc!

I've found focusing on the journey to the destiny, rather then the other way around, keeps my spec alittle more in check. I always imagine the answer to the destiny will be told, when I'm done walking the path of life and can print my life story and hand it onto the specs around me. Thinking of life in those terms does show you how really small, yet how profound it can all measure up too

Great entry Marc...I like to sit in the sand just at the edge of the water...put my hands down into it, curl my toes in it and close my eyes. I feel the water rush in over me, the sand moving in and then out with the tide...it's a powerful feeling.
